No condemnation

Romans 8:1-10
This passage from Romans should elicit Hallelujahs from us all. “There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.” Could there be any better news? No condemnation. No matter how spectacularly we goof up our lives.
We are his. “You are not in the flesh; you are in the Spirit, since the Spirit of God dwells in you.” God’s spirit lives in us, empowering us. Hallelujah! We don’t have to rely on our own flawed minds and bodies to be pleasing to God.
At my church, St. Paul’s Episcopal Cathedral, this collect was read this morning:
Almighty God, who sees that we have no power of ourselves to help ourselves: keep us both outwardly in our bodies and inwardly in our souls, that we may be defended from all adversities which may happen to the body and from all evil thoughts which may assault and hurt the soul; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.
In our weakness, even with all of our flaws and failures, God gives us life and peace. Hallelujah!
